WHAT ARE THE RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION?

The Black Belt/IT Process Excellence Consultant will work with business unit leadership in the execution of Six Sigma projects, typically involving potential hard financial benefits of $1MM and up in support of the IT Process Excellence organization. Black Belts work on 3 to 4 large Six Sigma projects per year.
They will actively lead multi-functional teams and provide individual contribution in problem solving efforts on selected projects to reduce defects, reduce cost, improve cycle time, and eliminate rework, etc. Projects are aligned with strategic processes and, when completed, achieve an improvement of at least 1 sigma level. These projects are both tactical and transformational in nature and will challenge the organization's operational models.

Accountabilities include:

  • Working with multi-functional IT and business teams and leadership to develop, execute and complete selected improvement projects.
  • Complete Six Sigma projects as assigned.  Success on the project will be measured as follows:

Proper execution of methodology and tool selection balancing speed with rigor

Project discipline (e.g. scope, schedule, budget, quality)

Timely completion of the project as agreed to by the project sponsor.

Involvement of financial consultant throughout the project

  • Timely and accurate updates in agreed upon presentation format to leadership
  • Act as a change agent to instill Six Sigma culture throughout the organization and drive measurable business process improvement.
  • Train other team members on Six Sigma methodology during project execution, and mentor Green Belts to support their project completion and certification
  • Work with finance and other members of the organization in assessing, tracking and reporting the financial benefit of Six Sigma projects, and work with other Black Belts in the organization to share best practices and to maximize understanding and improvement efforts of Six Sigma
  • Provide management with regular project status updates, feedback, and appropriate reporting on selected projects.

WHAT QUALIFICATIONS ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

  • Solid IT Project Management experience (minimum of 5 years)
  • Minimum of a Green Belt certification who has achieved a high degree of knowledge and capability in the Six Sigma and lean methodologies.
  • Achieved certification as a Black Belt by successfully completing two or more projects using the DMAIC process and by demonstrating technical proficiency in the Six Sigma methodology is preferred 
  • Track record of achievement in previous positions and a passion for making significant changes in an organization
  • Proven leadership skills and business acumen - performance driven.
  • Strong presentation skills with solid communication capabilities and practices, both oral and written.
  • Broad strategic thinker, with clear vision and direction of world class change management.
  • Works well in team environment, with sound negotiation and people solving skills.
  • Able to combine aggressive initiative with professional discipline and demeanor to accomplish difficult tasks through other people.
  • 4-year degree required in business, or technical discipline. Graduate degree a plus.
  • 5 years or more related work experience. 
  • Strong presentation skills with solid communication capabilities and practices, both oral and written.

  • Understanding of basic probability and statistics is preferred.
